Mother Cabrini

The annual training begins each October with weekly classes that run through the middle of March with breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Check the Training Calendar for specific dates and information. Individuals have the choice of an afternoon or an evening 2.5 hour class. Classes are offered both in Seattle and on the eastside. Curriculum topics include:

After 6 months of training (October to March), the graduates move on to monthly support meetings that each include a continuing education presentation followed by small group discussion and support. There are also social events, such as a summer picnic, an advent liturgy and potluck and the graduation liturgy and dessert reception.  These monthly Cabrini meetings supplement any parish level support that ministers have available.

A significant number of applicants are already involved in ministry and are working in a conventional 1-on-1 pastoral care ministry to the hospitalized, incarcerated or elderly. However, some come to be trained before they begin their ministry commitment. Others are involved in group ministries such as RCIA, youth ministry, lay liturgical presiding and marriage tribunal work. For those that complete the 65 hours of weekly training, many report a more meaningful, spiritually rich ministry and greater self awareness. Added to these benefits is participation in a supportive community centered on ministry.
