A Brief Summary of CMT
Cabrini Ministry Training was established in 1991 by South Seattle Deanery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Western Washington
Yearly classes begin each October and run through March. The Cabrini classes held in English are held in Seattle, WA and the Spanish Cabrini classes are held in Bellevue, WA.
The program welcomes training applicants from other faith traditions.
Teachers include local experts in the training topics, including some with Masters in Pastoral Studies, Philosophy, Counseling and Social Work, chaplains, former seminarians, lay ecclesial ministers, and religious women
Training includes 20 classes for a total of 65 hours on pastoral listening skills (24 hours over 8 classes), spirituality and sacramental presence, ministering to the dying, the elderly and other populations, confidentiality, agency, referral and transferal and ethics/social justice, a practical review and community building.
Support for Cabrini graduates includes monthly continuing education classes, a quarterly community newsletter and opportunities for monthly group spiritual direction.
In its first 17 years CMT has trained over 700 students who seek to use their skills serving others
Our most recent survey determined a minimum of 3713 volunteer ministry hours per month are offered locally by Cabrini graduates. 53% of these were provided to the parish, 18% to hospitals and nursing homes, 4% to detention facilities, and 25% to other ministries.
Efforts are being explored to offer curriculum to other locales that seek to provide Cabrini Ministry Training
